Report: Suns have locker room frustration over lack of a point guard
It's three games in, but the Phoenix Suns' struggles have reportedly caused locker room discontent. And not because of the defensive and rebounding issues that have presented themselves.

The Phoenix Suns are coming off Devin Booker’s lowest-scoring output in years, and that might have triggered the first sign of discontent this young season.
NBATV’s Chris Haynes reported Thursday that he has heard of locker room frustration — and it has to do with how cleanly the offense has operated.
“I made some calls and asking around — and what I found out is that there is some growing frustration in that locker room for the simple fact that that roster does not have a point guard that can organize that offense,” Haynes said on NBATV.
OMG NO this is not true. There is no dissension in the locker room. The amount of negativity after the team has played just three games is mind boggling. They started 1-4 last year. No Mark Williams No Oso. They are without their top two Centers right now. Plus incorporating some… https://t.co/dc36XsUHUy

Haynes added he does not know if the team is looking to address that apparent problem.

It should be noted Phoenix’s offensive rating is still 16th-best in the league.
Still, Booker’s three points on 1-for-7 shooting in a 125-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday stood out, partially because of his postgame comments after the team fell to 1-2 on the year. It’d been since November 2023 that he last scored in single digits in a game that he wasn’t hurt or pulled early.
“I just got to find better ways to be more aggressive,” Booker told AZCentral.com’s Duane Rankin.
“We just got to be more creative and finding ways, putting me in different spots to get the ball so I do what I do,” which is score, he added.
Internally, if the team were to make changes, Collin Gillespie is the closest thing to a traditional point guard. He re-signed this offseason after starting 58 of 80 games played, more due to injuries ahead of him than his fit as a starter.
So far this season, Phoenix has rolled out the same starting lineup without a traditional point guard: Booker, Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Miles Bridges and Khaman Maluach.
While eyes were initially on Maluach, a top-10 pick and second-year center, a rough start has put the focus on his more veteran teammates.
More concerning from the outside perspective, the Suns are ranked last in the NBA in defensive rating and last in rebounding rate through three games — although that is weighed down by a 41-point opener against Portland.

Portland has 4 points guard in Dame, Ja, Jrue and Scoot..
I seriously doubt Portland would let Scoot get away but you never know.. Though I’d take Jrue right now no problem.. He can run the point nicely, and plays solid D..
Yes he’s 36 so clearly it’s not a long term thing.. For me the reasons are 2 fold.. Should be able to get 2-3 effective years from him and second would be a terrific mentor for CG
Yep. Let’s wait til the season begins before we address the elephant in the room🙄
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is such a big issue and I really and truly are surprised that we let this go on as it did!!
CG is on board and we did far better with him running PT last year!! Give him the dang ball already!!!
