Breaking News: Lisa Love out as AD at ASU

Mar 28, 2012, 5:03 PM | Updated: 6:48 pm

Lisa Love is out as the Vice President of Athletics at
Arizona State University, and Steve Patterson, who had
served as the Chief Operating Officer of Sun Devil
Athletics and Managing Director of the Sun Devil Sports
Group, will take over.

“I wish to thank Lisa for seven years of excellent
service. During her tenure here ASU won seven national
championships and the academic performance and graduation
rates of our student-athletes improved dramatically,” ASU
President Michael M. Crow said in a press release.

Love was hired in April of 2005, but had been the target
of criticism last winter during the university’s extended
search for a new football coach.

Enter Patterson, who joined ASU in July 2011 after stints
with the NFL’s Houston Texans as well as the NBA’s Houston
Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers.

“In his time at ASU Steve Patterson has shown a level of
sports management expertise rarely seen at the college and
university level,” Crow added. “He is the ideal person to
build on the foundation Lisa built and to take Sun Devil
sports to the next level – to the highest level.”

A press conference has been called for 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday in Tempe to make the announcement official. More
details to come.
