Reds’ Billy Hamilton scores from second base on passed ball

The Reds' Billy Hamilton is one of the fastest players in MLB, and he showed off his incredible speed during Tuesday's game.

Billy Hamilton is one of the fastest players in all of baseball, a stolen base waiting to happen.

He swiped 56 bags in 2014 and 57 in 2015, and this season has 19 steals in just 69 games played.

On Tuesday, against the Chicago Cubs, he showed off his wheels by reaching home on a passed ball. Normally that wouldn’t be anything to write home about, except for the fact that Hamilton was on second base to begin the sequence.

John Lackey’s pitch to Jay Bruce went through catcher David Ross’ legs and to the backstop. Seeing that neither Ross nor Lackey were moving particularly quickly to get the ball, Hamilton rounded third and made a break for home.

Realizing what was happening, Ross hurried a throw to a late-covering Lackey, but missed the pitcher entirely.

The Cubs are having a great season and currently boast baseball’s best record, but odds are this is not going to go down as one of the more memorable plays of 2016.
