The Arizona Coyotes announced Thursday they will fund and build an outdoor hockey rink for the Luke Air Force Base community.
The $200,000 DEK rink a will be located next to the base’s pool and fitness center.
Arizona is targeting a completion deadline of Jan. 1, 2017.
“We are excited about this opportunity to enhance the quality of life for the military community,” Valerie Bérubé, P4 Program Manager, 56th Mission Support Group for Luke Air Force Base, said in a press release. “We are honored and deeply grateful to the Coyotes and to Fighter Country Partnership for their thoughtful generosity and support.”
The outdoor rink, which will be built with a cover, is one of many the Coyotes hope to build around the Valley in the near future.
Arizona has already identified other sites to build DEK rinks. The team said it has prioritized the locations in city and county parks that are nearby youth development facilities.
“The Coyotes are committed to the Valley and to growing the great game of hockey in our state,” said Coyotes President and CEO Anthony LeBlanc in a release. “We are thrilled to launch this effort with our great friends and partners at Luke Air Force Base.”
