Cam Skattebo wins Kyle Brandt’s Angry Runs award, receives honorary scepter

Cam Skattebo only needed one touch in the NFL to secure his first Angry Runs scepter, given out weekly by Good Morning Football's Kyle Brandt.

It’s been well chronicled how much of a perfect match former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo is for Kyle Brandt’s Angry Runs segment on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”

Even Skattebo can admit he wasn’t expecting to win the notorious award so quickly, but his dispatching of the first few defenders who tried to bring him down in his NFL career certainly left a mark.

“Imagine that. You’re supposed to be nervous, you’re supposed to be tentative,” Brandt said. “You’re losing the game, this is supposed to be ‘welcome to the NFL.’ Oh, it was welcome alright. To every one of the Commanders who tried to tackle him. Maybe we want to get this guy a little bit more involved in the offense. You scored six points, he broke six tackles on one play!

“Cam Skattebo, I adore you, I love you and dare I say I’m proud of you. … First touch in the NFL, you’re trucking dudes.”

Fellow panelists Jamie Erdahl, Manti Te’o and Willie Colon all agreed Skattebo should win the award over others, such as Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry and D’Andre Swift of the Chicago Bears.

As is the case with all winners of the Angry Runs segment, Skattebo was presented with a scepter. But his was unique because it was the first one to be hand-delivered by Brandt.

“That’s awesome,” Skattebo said. “(I wasn’t expecting it to happen on) the first one, but we knew it was going to happen (at some point).”

He called the scepter “sick” and said he’ll take a couple more. One is awarded each week to the “angriest run” around the league.

There’s also a Golden Scepter awarded at the NFL Honors for a yearlong award that Skattebo no-doubt has his eyes on.

In addition to the poster Skattebo signed and the matching shirt he received, Brandt is selling the shirts with a “furious,” red-eyed Skattebo.
