Gardner Minshew already bringing the vibes to Cardinals: ‘He’s a character’

Whether it be the mustache, the hair or the jorts, Arizona Cardinals veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew is a certified vibe.

And it hasn’t taken long for his new teammates, especially left tackle Paris Johnson Jr., to understand how Minshew operates.

“He has a great personality. He’s definitely a character. It’s funny because his locker is actually right next to mine. I’m able to talk to him every day. The guy he is, how dialed in he is about the game, he’s truly a football guy. It’s great to have another guy like that in the building,” Johnson told Arizona Sports’ Cardinals Corner.

“He’s got the hair, he’s got the ‘stache and he has the RV — not a minivan. … I remember I asked him, ‘Hey, are you serious about the RV thing or is it like a social media thing that you do?’ He was like, ‘No, I’m serious about hitting that road, brother.’ And I was like, ‘I like you already.’ … He’s awesome. He’s super authentic.”

Surprised? You shouldn’t be. RVing is clearly a way of life for Minshew, who went road-tripping after his rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He puts even more stock into the term “journeyman quarterback.”

With veteran Jacoby Brissett staying away from Arizona’s voluntary offseason program while seeking a raise, Johnson and the rest of the offense have gotten more work in with Minshew.

There’s not a lot to offseason programs. Teams are mainly going up against air and holding walkthroughs.

But as Johnson has already learned, there’s a lot more to Minshew than football.

Next stop, Grand Canyon National Park? Maybe Horseshoe Bend or Monument Valley?
