Man down: Arizona’s Hollis-Jefferson drives in for fast-break dunk, fails miserably

Even the best dunkers are prone to messing up an easy opportunity every now and then.

Even the best dunkers are prone to messing up an easy opportunity every now and then.

Take Arizona sophomore Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, a dynamic leaper who has several highlight-reel jams to his credit.

With his team holding a huge lead over Washington in the first half of a game Friday in Seattle, Hollis-Jefferson stole the ball and had a clear path to the basket with nary a defender in sight.

You’d think a windmill jam or perhaps a 360-degree dunk was in store, but the Wildcats swingman never got that far.

The Alaska Airlines Arena crowd taunted the Wildcats standout after the play, but UA got the last laugh, blowing out the Huskies 86-62.

Hollis-Jefferson had a strong all-around game, posting 17 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block. He summarized his failed dunk attempt after the game:

Hollis-Jefferson’s highlight mishap is reminiscent of one made by Shannon Brown, who was still a member of the Phoenix Suns when he partook in a dunk contest in Latvia in 2013 — to disastrous results.
