Ridiculous: EA Sports nails Super Bowl prediction with ‘Madden’ simulation
Can EA Sports give us the inside scoop on next weekend's Powerball numbers?
Can EA Sports give us the inside scoop on next weekend’s Powerball numbers?
On Jan. 26 — a full six days before Super Bowl XLIX took place in Glendale — EA Sports simulated the big game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots through its video game, “Madden NFL 15,” and posted the results on YouTube.
Of course, the sim was for entertainment purposes only. After all, you can’t expect a video game to accurately forecast the Super Bowl winner.
Right?
Yeah… check out the above video and prepare to marvel at EA Sports’ absurd accuracy.
Just how accurate was the “Madden” simulation? Consider:
-The Patriots took an early lead, but the Seahawks rallied to take a 17-14 advantage, and later a 24-14 edge in the third quarter.
-Quarterback Tom Brady led the Pats on a late comeback, capped by wide receiver Julian Edelman’s game-winning touchdown reception.
-Final score: New England 28, Seattle 24.
(The sim did not include a last-minute goal-line interception, but we’ll let that slide. Not even “Madden” could have predicted that play call.)
As of Monday afternoon, the video had just under 500,000 views on YouTube. When word spreads of EA Sports’ prognostication, we’re guessing its Super Bowl 50 “Madden” simulation will receive a bit more attention.
