Andrew Saalfrank might have an explanation for allowing a hit and a walk against the Texas Rangers on Monday night.

The Arizona Diamondbacks reliever didn’t have his customary Rice Krispie treats before the game.

“We’ve got a full box for the rest of the trip,” he told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Tuesday.

It was revealed during his first call up in 2023 that Saalfrank consumed a Red Bull and a Rice Krispie in the early innings of games, while hanging out in the bullpen.

“It just kind of started off as a joke and then I started throwing the ball well, and its like, ‘man, I’m not a superstitious guy but it would be silly for me to stop doing it,’ right?” Saalfrank told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo after his first callup in 2023.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

The routine has stuck and it’s helped the reliever to a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched this season.

Despite taking the loss in Texas on Tuesday, the run scored was not counted as an earned run.

Saalfrank is not the only professional athlete who relys on the classic children’s snack for high performance.

Professional runner Molly Huddle loads up on Rice Krispies before her marathon races.

She has been known to eat an entire box before her races.

“I wanted something that I liked eating, so it wasn’t a chore, and something that wasn’t going to set off my gut the next day,” Huddle told Front Office Sports in a recent article.

One can only wonder if there could be a Krispie endorsement deal on the horizon.
