Point guard Moe Odum dished out a different kind of assist to ASU's Santiago Trouet after the forward's double double in a win over Utah Tech.

TEMPE — Arizona State point guard Moe Odum dished out a different kind of assist to Santiago Trouet after the forward’s double-double in a win over Utah Tech.

Trouet tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win, including four offensive boards, earning free lunch from the restaurant of his choosing courtesy of Odum.

“I just go and get it. Coach told me (if) you want to play, go and get the ball,” Trouet said postgame. “Getting rebounds, I can control getting rebounds. Putting the ball in, you can’t control it.”

“Part of it is also I told him before the game if you get a certain amount of rebounds, I’ll buy him lunch,” Odum said. “So lunch is on me today.”

The 6-foot-10 Trouet needed to clear at least eight boards, so the double-double was just gravy. It was the sixth of his career and first by a Sun Devil this season.

He had at least 10 rebounds in seven games over the past two years at San Diego with a career high of 20.

Odum was clear, though — he’s an equal opportunity lunch provider for his big men. Massamba Diop (six rebounds) and Andrija Grbovic (five) could’ve earned their own free lunches, but they came up short of Odum’s bars of 10 and seven, respectively.

“I’m on them about their rebounds, I reward them for their rebounds,” Odum said. “I reward my big men.”

The question is not whether it's when. The only reasons Play-in made to this season was the 5 million on the books after paying herm and RA and (at that time) the undisclosed gambling issue. At the risk of repeating myself, who wants it? No talent, no history, no culture, no facility and limited NIL $$. Football is going to suck all the air out of the room and ya got a gambling scandal on top of that. Either you have to get a Show cause guy trying to get back in or a golden child from a low mid=major that no one else wants. Or you retread Sendek. Pickings are slim, you aren't even going to have a decent facility until 2029, they have to fix the plumbing and the HVAC first for god's sake. It's gonna be a bleak 5 years.

Bobby's teams have usually started out on fire, then conference play hits, and they swirl the drain, or at best, make it to Dayton. The AD didn't hire Hurley, and his contract ends this year . . . So, IF they do well, does he get a new contract, or does Graham go and try to find his Kenny Dillingham of basketball in Tempe (?).

Massamba Diop is a Redshirt Fr. 7'1, 230 lbs, 7'8" Wingspan, Uber Athletic, very well developed basketball mind. Watching them play 2 games now, Bobby confirms again, he is really good at shopping for Groceries. This is a much deeper team than last year, and if the guys on the Big 12 Broadcast are to be believed, they have much better chemistry. Early on, they face a very challenging schedule. Gonzaga, Hawaii, Texas, Oklahoma, Santa Clara, UCLA and Oregon State (all of whom are projected to go Dancing) before the Big 12 Season on January 3rd. Right now Jay Bilas has ASU dancing too... we'll see.
