The Arizona Diamondbacks scratched All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll from their starting lineup 90 minutes before first pitch against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

The club removed Carroll from the batting order due to lower back discomfort. He was set to bat fifth and start in right field for pitcher Corbin Burnes’ season debut.

The 26-year-old has dealt with a series of ailments throughout this season, from a hamate fracture in spring training to a back spasm that popped up during Arizona’s last homestand.

Arizona moved Tim Tawa from first base to right field and inserted Ildemaro Vargas into the lineup to play first base.

Carroll did not start on Monday in Kansas City, pinch hitting in the ninth inning of a scoreless game. Carroll struck out but scored as the ghost runner in a five-run 10th inning.

First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is at 4:40 p.m. MST on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.

That's like there used to be Zac Gallen on the DBacks roster & Zach Allen with the Cardinals.

When Zack Greinke was on the DBacks roster, there were also pitchers named Zac Curtis & Zach Godley on the team.
