Gabriel Moreno hit the go-ahead RBI single in the 10th inning, and Brandyn Garcia got the save as the Diamondbacks rallied to beat the Houston Astros 4-3 in extra innings on Saturday.

After Ketel Marte tied the game 3-3 with a home run in the eighth inning, Juan Morillo and Jonathan Loáisiga were able to put up scoreless frames to send the game to extra innings. Moreno was able to knock in the ghost runner with an RBI hit to make it 4-3.

Garcia entered the bottom of the 10th inning and registered a 1-2-3 inning, including strikeouts against Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve to get his fifth save of the season.

With the win, along with a San Diego Padres (74-68) loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday, the Diamondbacks (75-68) moved back into the third and final Wild Card Spot in the National League.

The D-backs went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position, a step in the right direction after recent hitting woes over the last week.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Arizona did not have a hit with runners in scoring position since the second game of a doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants on Aug. 29. They had gone 0-for-21 in their previous four games, scoring just four runs, three via solo homers.

Brandon Pfaadt delivered a quality start on Saturday, going 6 1/3 innings with just three runs allowed on seven hits, with four strikeouts and two walks. He did not surrender a home run in the game after giving up five in his previous three starts.

Diamondbacks’ next game

Following the win, the D-backs will face the Astros in the series’ rubber matchup on Sunday.

D-backs lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (14-5, 2.59 ERA) will take the mound against Astros righty Peter Lambert (8-7, 3.66 ERA).

First pitch from Daikin Park is at 11:10 a.m. MST. Listen to the game on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
