Geraldo Perdomo leaves game after being hit in head by line drive from Ketel Marte

Shortstop Gerald Perdomo left the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 3-2 series finale win against the Houston Astros on Sunday after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Ketel Marte.

Perdomo reached base in the third inning with a leadoff single before getting nailed by Marte’s 93 mph line drive and going down. Luckily, the ball hit Perdomo’s helmet.

The D-backs shortstop remained down for a few minutes as the team trainer came to check on him, as well as Marte and manager Torey Lovullo, before he was able to walk off on his own power.

The D-backs later announced that Perdomo exited the game with a head contusion and would be monitored Sunday and into Monday. Lovullo said postgame that Perdomo did not enter the concussion protocol and he plans to have him in the starting lineup on Monday against the Kansas City Royals. 

Tim Tawa came in to replace Perdomo, and Ildemaro Vargas moved over to shortstop.

Marte reached base on a single, and two batters later Nolan Arenado launched a two-run home run to give the Diamondbacks a 3-1 lead in the third, which proved to be the game-winning hit.
