Drey Jameson placed on injured list with elbow inflammation

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Drey Jameson landed on the seven-day injured list in Triple-A Reno with right elbow inflammation, the club told Arizona Sports on Tuesday.

Jameson’s injury is not considered alarming, nor is a lengthy absence expected.

Jameson missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in September 2023. He pitched his first game in 600 days during spring training, and the organization opted to start him in Triple-A as he built up to a major league workload.

He came up for just over a week at the end of April and allowed one earned run in three innings — although he gave up four hits with three walks.

Jameson can pump an upper-90s heater with a wipeout slider, stuff that can get major leaguers out if he executes. The D-backs saw improvements that needed to be made in that regard, however, and sent him back down.

May has been a tough month for Jameson with eight earned runs and seven walks in 5.2 innings in hitter-friendly Reno.

Rehabbing D-backs reliever Justin Martinez throws 101 mph

Speaking of Triple-A Reno, D-backs reliever Justin Martinez made a rehab appearance for the Aces on Tuesday and delivered a scoreless inning of work.

He reached 101.5 mph, throwing five of 13 pitches over 100 mph, according to Gameday.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Martinez reached 99 mph in his complex league outing on Saturday, so Tuesday appeared to be closer to normalcy for the flamethrower.

He landed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation on May 1, but Martinez has not looked quite right since April 17, after which he was temporarily shut down for shoulder fatigue.

Martinez’s velocity dropped before he landed on the IL. Getting him back would boost the back end of the bullpen.

Elsewhere on the farm, catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo made his first complex league appearance on Tuesday as he works back from a shoulder strain that cost him nearly the first two months of the season.
