Goldschmidt, Owings remain fourth in latest All-Star balloting

Jun 5, 2017, 12:03 PM

After the second balloting update, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and shortstop Chris Owings remain in fourth place in National League voting for their respective positions.

Among National League first baseman, Goldschmidt is second in average (.306) and hits (64), third in RBI (45) and OPS (.999), and seventh in home runs (13).

Goldschmidt has been an All-Star each of the last four seasons, and started the games in 2014 and 2015.

Goldschmidt (363,431 votes) trails the Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman, who leads the NL first basemen in voting with 670,671.

Owings, on the other hand, is looking for his first All-Star appearance, and the first ever by a D-backs shortstop.

This season, Owings has drastically improved his numbers at the plate and sits second among NL shortstops with a .296 average and 30 RBI. His six home runs already tie his career high and put him fourth.

Owings, with 328,217 votes, trails the Dodgers’ Corey Seager by 276,566 votes for first place among NL shortstops.

There will be three more updates on the NL voting before the rosters are announced about a week before the July 11 game in Miami.
