The World Baseball Classic is magical for the passion it brings out, but also for the moments where major league teammates get to compete against one another, like when Ketel Marte came up to bat against his Arizona Diamondbacks teammate, Eduardo Rodriguez, on Wednesday.
Marte, already with a hit in his first at-bat against Rodriguez, worked a full count in the third inning before sending a sinker 403 feet out to left field.

After Rodriguez punched his glove in frustration, Marte turned to look at his dugout and flipped his bat before taking off around the bases.

Marte’s moonshot made it a 3-1 lead for the Dominican Republic over Venezuela in the latest battle between Latin powerhouses. It was his first career WBC home run after he made his tournament debut in 2023.
It was the second home run given up by Rodriguez after Juan Soto got to him in the first inning. Rodriguez had his get-back, striking Soto out after the Marte home run before he was taken out with three earned runs across 2.2 innings pitched.
The Dominican Republic took the win, 7-5, and advanced to the WBC quarterfinals to face Korea. Venezuela will face defending-champion Japan.
