SAN DIEGO — The Arizona Diamondbacks scratched second baseman Ketel Marte from their starting lineup ahead of Monday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

The club revealed Marte is dealing with right groin tightness and is considered day-to-day.

“Pretty good chance he’s gonna play tomorrow,” manager Torey Lovullo said postgame on Monday.

Marte has been one of the game’s top hitters since coming off the injured list (hamstring) on May 2. In 55 games since then, he ranks fifth in MLB with an OPS of .988 and fourth in home runs with 21.

The switch-hitter was picked to start the All-Star Game at second base for the National League, which takes place on July 15. Before then, the Diamondbacks have a critical stretch of seven games, starting with four at Petco Park against a team they are chasing in the NL Wild Card race.

Marte received a day off on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals and jumped back into the lineup on Sunday. He took ground balls during pregame warmups on Monday but was removed from the lineup for recovery.

Blaze Alexander was inserted into the lineup at second base to bat ninth against Padres right-hander Yu Darvish. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo moved up from batting third to second and designated hitter Lourdes Gurriel Jr. jumped from sixth to third.
