Lourdes Gurriel Jr. exits Diamondbacks-Rockies with hamstring injury

PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. came out of Friday’s 3-2 loss against the Colorado Rockies after making a sliding catch in the sixth inning.

The club announced shortly after that Gurriel exited the game with left hamstring tightness.

Gurriel tossed the ball away after making the grab and stayed down for a few moments before his teammates ran over. Gurriel got up but walked off the field with the athletic trainer.

Jorge Barrosa entered the game to play center field, while Ryan Waldschmidt moved over to left.

Gurriel and manager Torey Lovullo said postgame that the outfielder would undergo imaging on Saturday. Gurriel said he did not think it was too serious but would see how he felt in the morning.

Lovullo called Gurriel day-to-day but noted that there was medium concern he could miss time.

“We’re trying to figure out what that means, and we’re just going to have to give you guys information as it comes to us,” Lovullo said. “But he’ll get evaluated tomorrow, and we’ll get you guys updated as soon as possible.”

Gurriel said he felt tightness while running to the spot, not on the slide.

“We’ll wait and see the results tomorrow,” Gurriel said via Spanish interpreter.

Gurriel had been a key player on Friday, driving in Arizona’s two runs in the game with a sacrifice fly and a double. Gurriel has hit .300 over his past eight games.

The veteran suffered a torn right ACL on Sept. 1, 2025, having to be carted off at Chase Field to end his campaign. Gurriel worked tirelessly to come back sooner than expected, and he made his 2026 debut on April 18.
