Diamondbacks MLB Draft guide: Where they are picking in the 1st round

PHOENIX — The Major League Baseball Draft is on Saturday ahead of the All-Star break, and the Arizona Diamondbacks own two of the top 31 picks.

Arizona will select 15th overall in the opening round after finishing last season 80-82. The club will then pick 31st with a Competitive Balance Round A slot.

The D-backs have a bonus pool of $13,603,100 to offer draftees, the 12th most in MLB, according to MLB Pipeline.

The draft schedule is different this season, as Rounds 1-4 will be on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. MST, while Rounds 5-20 will take place on Sunday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. MST.

The Chicago White Sox will pick first, followed by the Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins.

MLB Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo: Alabama SS Justin Lebron 

Lebron is a 6-foot-2 infielder who earned Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team honors in 2025. His stock from potential top-five pick has taken a hit after his numbers took a step back in 2026. He slashed .277/.386/.534 with 16 home runs and 42 steals with one caught stealing. Mayo made the case that Lebron’s tools are intriguing, but he chased quite a bit this past season and was more erratic on defense (19 errors).

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel: LSU CF Derek Curiel

Curiel is a left-handed outfielder, but unlike several recent Diamondbacks first-rounders, he is 6-foot-2. He earned Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team honors this past season for LSU, as he hit for a .957 OPS. He only clubbed six home runs but hit for a high average (.353) and got on base often (.431).

McDaniel evaluated that Curiel is a hit-first player who can play any outfield position to provide a high floor and medium ceiling.

MLB Pipeline staff: Virginia CF AJ Gracia

Baseball America’s Carlos Collazo: Gracia

Gracia is a bigger left-handed outfielder at 6-foot-3, and he is coming off a season in which he hit .354 with 14 home runs.

He earned Second Team All-ACC honors for the second straight season. Gracia was a hits machine at the end of the year with 11 multi-hit efforts in his last 14 games with the Cavaliers, including five knocks in a Hattiesburg Regional game against Southern Miss.

Mayo wrote for MLB Pipeline that Gracia has good bat-to-ball skills but there are questions about his defensive fit. Collazo added that Gracia is picking up steam for his hitting profile, but his defense and arm talent are causing some pause.

The Athletic’s Keith Law: Prep 3B Bo Lawrence

The D-backs have gone with a prep bat with their first pick in each of their last two drafts with outfielder Slade Caldwell in 2024 and shortstop Kayson Cunningham last summer.

Lawrence is not a short, left-handed hitter, however. He is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound, left-handed hitter, leading Law to write, “he may be too tall for the Diamondbacks.”

“He’s separated himself enough from the rest of that second tier of high school bats to put himself into this range. The Diamondbacks are one of the teams I’ve heard who are specifically on him.”
