Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo jumped into his manager's postgame press conference after Sunday's loss to plead with media members to leave Ketel Marte alone.

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo on Sunday took a bite out of manager Torey Lovullo’s postgame interview after a 6-5 loss against the Colorado Rockies to defend teammate Ketel Marte with reports swirling regarding his time-off requests.

“I’m tired of this, it’s going to be for all reporters and writers. This is the second time something came out for Marte,” Perdomo told reporters. “Please. He just want to play baseball. … Just leave the guy alone. It’s been too much for him. I feel like he doesn’t deserve that.”

His response ended with a plea and a quick look directly at the camera after absorbing the team’s third consecutive loss to MLB’s worst club with a record of 35-89.

“Please, please, you guys have to stop,” Perdomo said. “Whoever’s writing or saying [expletive] in the media or outside, please, we just want to play baseball. And keep that guy alone. Please.”

Marte started the first nine of Arizona’s 13 games in 13 days before coming off the bench for two plate appearances on Sunday. He had a chance to play savior again as he did in consecutive games against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday and Wednesday, but popped out in the ninth with two runners in scoring position.

His production, in spite of reports of teammates being irked by untimely time off, has not fallen off one bit. In the same nine-game span, Marte has hit safely in eight and notched seven extra-base hits.

Lovullo on Friday responded to the report with a parenting metaphor, saying he doesn’t “treat (his) kids all the same.”

“You try to get the best version of each child and that requires different strategy,” Lovullo said on Arizona Sports’ Burn & Gambo. “I will say Ketel Marte has a massive heart and is extremely emotional. He loves to play and wants to be in the middle of everything with his teammates every single day.”

The Diamondbacks return to Chase Field on Monday night for a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians (63-60).

Listen to Game 1 of Diamondbacks-Guardians at 6:40 p.m. on 98.7, Arizona Sports.com and the Arizona Sports app.

I get your points bro, I really do..

Though I’m on the fence.. We absolutely should have won 3 of 4 vs the Rox..The BP is full of Journeys and maybes..

This Ketel stuff smells like an agenda..

My big beef is how we refuse to spend on the BP.. In the offseason, we gave it almost no attention.. You, me and many others kept posting about the need for a closer! And yet Hazen did nothing.. We were the top scoring team in MLB last year, and had a bad BP which definitely cost us the postseason, and still we did nothing..

We came into this season with a maybe in JMart.. And they gave consideration to Puk, though he’s been a setup guy..

We simply refuse to spend on relievers.. If you look at the payroll you will see the same.. So many small dollar contracts.. Astros are a good example of spending wisely on the Pen.. And it’s a big reason they have been a winning ball club for 10 years

You get what you pay for..

They should have unloaded him earlier. His trade value is now falling.
My guess is other teams mid-season failed to offer comparable value spotting his team disruptive psyche.
*Torey should have DH'd him much more all along.....geez he's a switch hitter, seems obvious! By DHing, never should have missed games, wouldn't have disrupted the team concept and it's not like his defense has been special.
BTW, my guess that 400k break in was one bling....there'll always be another creative excuse with Ketel.

Putting this all in one person is absolutely crazy!!

Very good post my friend thank you!

My only concern is with our Relief pitching. This needs immediate attention!! And I would be really disappointed if we do not spend appropriately for next season

Being a top scoring club like we are deserves a proper BP!
