Diamondbacks OF Tommy Troy placed on 10-day injured list

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Tommy Troy on the 10-day injured list with a sprained right AC joint, the team announced Wednesday.

The roster move was made retroactive to Sunday, one day after he crashed into the wall while tracking a ball at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles.

Troy hauled in a 392-foot fly ball from Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, but he immediately grabbed his right shoulder after the catch. He flipped the ball to right fielder Corbin Carroll, who threw it back in.

Troy said postgame that he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder and that mobility was still difficult a couple hours after he exited.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Troy, who went 0-for-1 with a walk and a strikeout before exiting, would be considered day-to-day. Ryan Waldschmidt and Jorge Barrosa filled in for Troy to complete the sweep of the Dodgers and get into the All-Star break.

Arizona comes out of the All-Star break on Friday when it begins a series hosting the St. Louis Cardinals. Troy will be eligible to come off the IL during the ensuing series against the Athletics.

Wednesday’s move did not come with another move and thereby leaves Arizona’s 40-man roster at 39.

Elsewhere on the transaction wire, infielder Pavin Smith cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Reno.
