Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch was ejected after receiving his second technical foul during Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns.

The coach had a conversation with official CJ Washington, who tossed the coach with 5:07 left in the third quarter in the Timberwolves’ 121-113 win. It is the first career ejection for Finch.

After Finch was ejected, Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards ran over to Finch to try and deescalate the situation. Micah Nori, Minnesota’s lead assistant, assumed head coaching duties for the rest of the contest.

Finch had picked up his first technical foul in the first quarter.

Arizona Sports’ Kellan Olson spoke with Crew Chief Pat Fraher after the game and learned Finch “used profanity directed towards a game official,” to receive his first technical and later “used derogatory comments directed towards all of the officials,” to earn his ejection.

Finch’s ejection comes after the Timberwolves coach also had to leave during Game 4 of the 2024 first-round playoff series against the Suns when point guard, Mike Conley, accidentally ran into him after a foul by Devin Booker.
