The Phoenix Suns and star player Devin Booker are “in talks” on a contract extension, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Monday.
Booker is eligible to sign a two-year, $149.8 million contract extension on July 6 as he enters his 11th season with the Suns.
He previously signed a four-year, $224 million supermax contract extension in 2022. That deal takes him through the 2027-28 season (Age 31), and a new extension would tack on two more years.
Booker has been the face of the franchise for most of his tenure, which started when the Suns selected him No. 13 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.
The 28-year-old is a four-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA honoree and the all-time leading scorer in Suns history with 16,452 points.
He averaged 25.6 points, 7.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game last year, shooting 46.1% from the floor and 33.2% from beyond the arc. He has averaged at least 25 points per game in each of the last seven years.
The Suns have moved on from superstar Kevin Durant by trading him to the Houston Rockets, moving towards retooling around Booker.
The highest average annual value on a contract in the NBA currently belongs to Joel Embiid, who signed a three-year, $193 million deal ($64.3 million AAV).
A $75 million AAV for Booker would set a new league record.

Teams just never learn, Suns do this extension and they’ll continue to be an afterthought in the WC. Booker gets his numbers and that’s it, he doesn’t bleed wins/losses. If the Suns ever want to be great they’ll trade Booker and start fresh.
This is out of control. I love Booker, but 75 mil? What a mess. I remember when Magic Johnson got a 1 mil contract. Boy how times change. Again, what a mess. Teachers get squat, first responders squat, military squat....yet sports so overpaid. How about everyone on team gets a 10mil bonus if win championship.
More wasted money. This team needs a full rebuild. He will.never be a franchise player
before cp3 came to town Booker was the team leader among a bunch of youngsters and utterly failed. Sure he has good stats, but was never a leader. Now he is older and back on a team with a bunch of youngsters
