Report: Suns’ Tyus Jones to sign with Orlando Magic
Former Phoenix Suns point guard Tyus Jones has agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with the Orlando Magic.

Former Phoenix Suns point guard Tyus Jones has agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with the Orlando Magic, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The news comes after the Suns agreed to a standard contract with point guard Collin Gillespie on Monday. Phoenix also opted against retaining small forward Cody Martin, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
Jones appeared in 81 games (58 starts) for the Suns after inking a one-year contract worth the minimum salary. He was expected to earn a solid pay day after a one-year stint in Washington but opted for a discounted one-year deal in Phoenix.
Jones went on to average 10.2 points per game on 44.8% shooting and 41.4% from long range. He added 2.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists across 26.8 minutes per game.
The majority of his starts came in the first half of the season before eventually falling out of the role across the final 27 games. During that stretch, he made just four starts and averaged 21.5 minutes per game as Phoenix searched for more defense at the position.
Among those who filled in for the role was Gillespie, who was on a two-way contract for Phoenix last season before agreeing to a standard contract this week.
Where did Tyus Jones play before joining Suns?
Jones entered the league as the 24th overall pick for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He spent four seasons in Minnesota before signing a three-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2019. Jones played out his contract before inking a two-year deal in 2022.
The following year, he was dealt to the Washington Wizards in a trade that centered around Kristaps Porzingis and Marcus Smart.
Jones turned in his best season as a pro behind 12 points per game on 48.9% shooting and 41.4% from deep. He added 2.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists (both career highs) and 1.1 steals.

Jones got scorched on defense on a nightly basis.
Good. I was worried the Suns would re-sign Tyus Jones ... He showed last year he wasn't up for the role and task, Suns should look elsewhere for a PG.
Bad idea. We have a lot of athletic bigs and not a lot of guys that can shoot and attack the rim at the guard position. Booker is that guy that creates balance. Without KD here, if we can get CP3, I think the killer Book returns.
