Report: Suns like Arizona product Koa Peat if they trade into NBA Draft’s 1st round

The Phoenix Suns are believed to have interest in Valley prep product and Arizona Wildcats forward Koa Peat if they find a way into the first round of the NBA Draft, according to NBA reporter Jake Fischer.

“I believe that if Phoenix trades into the first round, Arizona freshman Koa Peat is one of the Suns’ top targets,” Fischer wrote in a Tuesday afternoon edition of The Stein Line newsletter.

The first round takes place Tuesday night, but the Suns don’t currently have a pick until the second round at No. 47 overall. The second round gets underway on Wednesday.

Peat’s draft range is generally expected to be in the mid-20s.

“I believe that San Antonio at No. 20, Atlanta at No. 23, New York at No. 24, and Denver at No. 26 will all be open to moving down or out of the first round altogether,” Fischer reports, adding the 20-30 range could see plenty of shifting on draft night.

A 5-star recruit, Peat won four state titles at Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, before helping the Wildcats to a Final Four appearance.

He averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists and shot 53% from the field as a freshman.

Peat shot 35% from 3-point range but on a limited volume (7-for-20).

His stock took a hit in the pre-draft process due to shooting struggles and a reworked jumper.

Peat measured at 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds with a 6-foot-11.25 wingspan at the NBA Draft combine.
