Haywood Highsmith re-signs with Suns after being waived last week

The Phoenix Suns have re-signed forward Haywood Highsmith to a one-year contract after waiving him five days prior, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

He was on a $3 million veteran’s minimum salary with only $1 million guaranteed before he was waived.

Phoenix signed the six-year NBA veteran to a two-year, veteran’s minimum contract in February, about six months after he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus while with the Miami Heat.

Miami traded him to the Brooklyn Nets one week after the surgery, and Brooklyn announced two months later that he had a setback and would remain sidelined.

He first appeared for Phoenix on March 6 and played double-digit minutes in five of the seven regular-season games he played. Highsmith had a Suns career high of 16 points on March 16 against the Celtics.

He appeared in seven regular-season games and totaled 91 minutes of game action.

Highsmith also saw 10 minutes in the play-in win over the Golden State Warriors before appearing in two playoff games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, totaling about 10 minutes.
