Suns owner Mat Ishbia is in no rush to make a big deal before the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline given Phoenix’s 22-15 start to the season.
Ishbia told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Thursday that while the Suns will be active ahead of the deadline, he likes the roster under its current structure.
“We will be active because we talk to people every day, but the truth is we love our team,” Ishbia said. “We love our guys, we love our coach, and we love everything we got going. We don’t need to mess with a great thing.”
The Suns have won seven out of their last 10 games and are seventh in the Western Conference as of Thursday.
Ishbia said that because the Suns have yet to see the full group with Jalen Green still out due to a hamstring strain, the team doesn’t feel pressure to make a big trade. He added he is open to making a trade but wants to see the team continue to develop.
“We still have to see our full team, which we hopefully see with Jalen out there in the whole group. We don’t need to make a change at all. We could go do nothing at all and feel good about it,” the owner said.
“We don’t need to do anything. We are proud of our team and we are building. Now if something comes up and we need to make a move, we will look at things. We like where we are at, and the fans like where we are at right now.”
Ishbia stands firm on Suns not trading Dillon Brooks
Ishbia reaffirmed his stance on Thursday that the Suns are not trading Dillon Brooks after posting on X after former NBA center Boogie Cousins suggested Monday the Los Angeles Lakers should trade Austin Reaves for Brooks.
He credited Brooks with embodying the team’s identity and being instrumental in its success.
“There’s zero chance of that happening,” Ishbia said. “There’s zero chance of us trading Dillon Brooks. Everything we love about what the Phoenix Suns are doing right now is what Dillon Brooks represents.”

He's also acknowledging that they're way better than he or anyone else thought they'd be. If everyone liked the team and they we're 9 games under .500 then he'd probably not care what we thought.
They're scouting 3rd graders for their next #1. There's this Serbian kid who is 6'3" and he's 9. 🤣🤣
