The downtown Phoenix arena that is home to the Suns and Mercury has its next name, Mortgage Matchup Center.

The Suns, Mercury and United Wholesale Mortgage — whose president and CEO is Suns owner Mat Ishbia — announced a 10-year, $115 million naming rights deal on Thursday. Mortgage Matchup is UWM’s consumer-facing brand.

“I’m extremely excited about this partnership as it represents two organizations that have natural alignment and a shared commitment to excellence,” Ishbia said in a press release. “The Phoenix Suns and Mercury have a diverse, passionate and engaged fan base in sports that will allow us to make strong connections between mortgage brokers and consumers.”

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported there were four bidders for the naming rights.

In addition to Suns and Mercury home games, the building is set to host the 2027 NBA All-Star Game less than a calendar year after it anchors the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four.

Signage for the arena’s last sponsored name, Footprint Center, came down over the All-Star break in February, prompting news the organization was looking for a new naming rights holder.

The building was known as PHX Arena for the short time between rights holders.

The Mercury will play Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces at Mortgage Matchup Center on Wednesday.

"The Suns, Mercury and United Wholesale Mortgage — whose president and CEO is Suns owner Mat Ishbia — announced a 10-year, $115 million naming rights deal on Thursday. Mortgage Matchup is UWM’s consumer-facing brand."

So Mat Ishbia will transfer $115 million from his mortgage company to the Suns and Mercury in which him and brother hold at least a 50% majority stake?

Hmmm... no wonder Ishbia is sued so often.
