Steph Curry ‘probably not’ playing Saturday night vs. Suns

Curry's absence would be a massive boost for Phoenix, which is coming off a 41-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in its season opener.

The Phoenix Suns may be looking at a major lift in their second game of the 2026-27 season, as Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry is not expected to suit up for the teams’ game against each other Saturday night.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will simply be managing Curry’s workload, as Golden State will be playing its third game in four days and the back end of a back-to-back.

“Probably not,” Curry said when asked by reporters if he’ll play against Phoenix following Friday’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. “But I’ll talk to the (medical) staff.”

It’s been expected that Curry would miss some games, especially early in the season, due to rest and injury management, as Kerr had been open about that plan after the two-time MVP missed 39 games last season with a nagging right knee injury.

The Athletic’s Nick Friedell detailed Kerr’s cautious approach, in which Kerr even warned fans to look at the schedule ahead of time for back-to-backs that Curry may not play in when buying tickets.

“I would just come out and tell the fans out there to be mindful when you’re buying the tickets of the schedule. Take a look,” Kerr said in Friedell’s article. Later in the article, Kerr said, “We are purposefully ramping up Steph more slowly this year, this training camp, than he’s used to.”

Curry’s absence would be a massive boost for Phoenix, which is coming off a 41-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in its season opener. Though it’s very early in the season, it almost feels like a must-win game for the playoff-hopeful Suns, especially in their home opener against an injury-riddled Warriors squad that is 0-2.

Suns-Warriors will tip off from Mortgage Matchup Center at 7 p.m. MST.
