Arizona State guard Vijay Wallace out for season after lower leg injury in exhibition game
Arizona State guard Vijay Wallace will miss the 2025-26 season after requiring surgery on his ankle following an injury in an exhibition game on Sunday.

Arizona State guard Vijay Wallace was taken off the court on a stretcher after suffering what was later determined to be a season-ending ankle injury during an exhibition game against Texas A&M on Sunday night.
Multiple reports, including one from SunDevilSource.com’s Chris Karpman, said Wallace was injured while landing during a dunk attempt. On Thursday, coach Bobby Hurley confirmed Wallace dislocated his ankle and underwent surgery on Wednesday.
“It was really heartbreaking to see it. It was probably one of the worst (of that injury) I’ve seen,” Hurley told reporters. “His prognosis was very good to get better in a couple months following the surgery.
“The players were really emotionally up just seeing that. It was hard to even finish the game, really.”
In his 14 minutes before the injury, Wallace had one point, three assists, two rebounds, one block and one steal.
Wallace, a 6-foot-5 wing from Chicago, averaged 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 35 games with JUCO Triton College last season.
In other injury news, Hurley said Belgian sophomore guard Noah Meeusen rolled his ankle in practice and will be out “a few weeks.” The coach said the “silver lining” is the fact Meeusen will not need surgery after a tumble.
“Today (there) wasn’t as many live reps. There won’t be as many live reps so we can get to the game in one piece on Tuesday,” Hurley added.
It leaves an ASU roster that saw 10 players leave in the transfer portal in the offseason shorthanded.
ASU starts its season on Tuesday against Southern Utah at Desert Financial Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN+.
