Four-star prospect Howard Williams committed to Arizona State men’s basketball on Monday, becoming the second 2027 forward to pledge their services to Randy Bennett in as many weeks.

The 6-foot-7 Williams is the No. 44 player in the class and No. 4 power forward, according to 247 Sports’ composite ranking.

The No. 5 prospect in Texas plays for Dynamic Prep in Dallas, where he is coached by one-time Phoenix Suns big man Jermaine O’Neal. He previously spent time in the Overtime Elite league.

Williams had an official visit to ASU on Aug. 21. He picked the Sun Devils after visiting Washington and ahead of a previously scheduled trip to fellow Big 12 program TCU.

Randy Bennett, ASU have recruiting momentum

ASU on Wednesday got its first 2027 commit in four-star forward Carson Crawford.

Crawford is ranked just behind Williams in the composite ranking, clocking in at No. 50 overall and No. 13 among small forwards.

While NCAA rules prohibit official comments on commits before they’ve signed, ASU athletic director Graham Rossini teased the addition of Williams and perhaps another when joining Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Thursday.

“There’s maybe another one or two in the hopper that may come out soon, but they’re recruiting their tails off,” Rossini said. “And it’s a credit to coach Bennett. It’s a credit to his coaching staff.

“I mean he put together an unbelievable group of coaches around him that have (a) had head coaching experience, (b) they’ve been at all levels of the sport — Power Four, elite programs, international relationships. That’s starting to bear some really important, early fruit.”

ASU’s season opener is Nov. 2 against East Tennessee State. It will play an exhibition at New Mexico on Oct. 25.
