State of the Sun Devils Podcast: Arizona State football opens season with sloppy win over NAU

On the latest edition of the State of the Sun Devils podcast, Jeremy Schnell, Jesse Morrison and Damon Allred react to Arizona State football’s season-opening win over the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

The No. 11 Sun Devils took down NAU 38-19 at Mountain America Stadium on Saturday in front of a record 14,280 students.

While ASU won the game, the team did not look like the defending Big 12 champions.

The Sun Devils committed 12 penalties in the victory and the offensive line struggled to protect quarterback Sam Leavitt at times.

There were multiple positives in the game.

Leavitt had a solid outing with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. He threw for 257 yards and ran for 73. Wide receiver Jordyn Tyson also had a strong performance with 12 receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

ASU will attempt to have a cleaner showing Saturday in what should be a hostile environment at Mississippi State. The Sun Devils beat the Bulldogs 30-23 last season in Tempe.
