Arizona State’s Will Shaffer took home Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his play in the team’s 46-33 win over Oregon State.

Shaffer is now the fifth Sun Devil to receive the award this season, with at least one player being named in each of their four games played.

The freshman linebacker was a key cog early on in the Sun Devils’ success over the Beavers.

With the score knotted up at seven-all, Shaffer made his impact felt on special teams, blocking the Beavers’ punt and handing the ASU offense great field position in the process. Shaffer was credited with a 22-yard punt return.

The blocked punt was the first by a Sun Devil since Timarcus Davis got the better of No. 15 Cal in 2019.

Eight plays later, the offense would cash in on Shaffer’s stellar effort with a seven-yard run from sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Aside from the blocked punt, Shaffer also registered a tackle and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Shaffer joins sophomore Dohnovan West (OL), Tyler Johnson (defensive), Merlin Robertson (defensive) and Michael Turk (special teams) to win a weekly Pac-12 honor this year.
