The Athletic’s Khan lists ASU’s Cutter Boley as one of top QB transfers

The Athletic’s Sam Khan Jr. listed Arizona State’s Cutter Boley as one of the top transfer quarterbacks heading into the 2026 college football season.

Khan ranked the 6-foot-5, 213-pound signal caller as the 13th-best quarterback from the transfer portal. Boley was one of five quarterbacks transferring to Big 12 programs to make the list, which included Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker (third), Texas Tech’s Brendan Sorsby (fourth), Baylor’s DJ Lagway (eighth) and TCU’s Jaden Craig (12th).

Boley is coming off a 2025 campaign with Kentucky in which he threw for 2,160 yards with a 65.8% completion rate, 15 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while adding two rushing scores.

Khan said while Boley’s turnovers are concerning, his mobility and size make him an intriguing starting option under head coach Kenny Dillingham.

Boley’s numbers in his first season as a starter weren’t eye-catching, but his traits were. He’s big and mobile and can make big-time throws, navigate the pocket and manage the offense. That Kenny Dillingham — who has tutored Sam Leavitt, Bo Nix and Jordan Travis — targeted Boley speaks volumes. Boley will need to cut down on the turnovers; he has 17 in 15 career games.

Boley headlined a transfer portal class that saw ASU make several additions on offense, including wide receivers Omarion Miller, Reed Harris and Raiden Vines-Bright, and running backs David Avit and Marquis Gillis.

The redshirt sophomore enters 2026 as the likely starter for the Sun Devils, but Dillingham told reporters on Thursday he “wouldn’t say there’s a pecking order, I would say there’s good competition right now” when it came to the starting job. 

Redshirt senior transfer Mikey Keene, redshirt freshman Cam Dyer and true freshman Jake Fette are the other quarterbacks vying for the starting job. 

Miami transfer quarterback Darian Mensah topped Khan’s list, with LSU and former ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt being ranked second on the list.
