Arizona State was fined $50,000 for its fans storming the field at Mountain America Stadium following its win Saturday over Texas Tech, the Big 12 announced Tuesday.

“The Big 12 prioritizes the safety of all players, coaches and officials,” Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said in a statement. “The conference will continue to work with all of its institutions on event management policies at all Big 12 venues.”

After the Sun Devils defense batted down a pass from Texas Tech quarterback Will Hammond in the end zone to end the game, the goal posts came down almost immediately and the field was full of gold and maroon.

ASU won 26-22 over the then-No. 7 Red Raiders with quarterback Sam Leavitt back leading the charge after missing one game with a lower leg injury.

Leavitt and coach Kenny Dillingham were in the middle of the sea of people, the latter even cutting a postgame interview short to join in on the celebration.

ASU stays at home this week with Houston (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) coming to Tempe on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. MST.
