Arizona State is moving forward with Jack Nudo as full-time special teams coordinator after he took over for Charlie Ragle amid a health leave, ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported.

Ragle began his leave on Oct. 27, and assistant coordinator Nudo, who joined the staff ahead of the 2025 season, took over.

Special teams was a weakness for ASU in 2025, and it took steps forward under Nudo as acting coordinator. He came in with previous special teams coaching experience at Cal, East Carolina and Austin Peay.

Thamel added former NFL punter Mike Scifres (San Diego Charges 2003-15, Carolina Panthers 2016) will join the staff to work with specialists.

Kanyon Floyd will be a true junior and is yet to tap into his potential as the No. 2 punter in the 2024 class out of Scottsdale Horizon High School.

Floyd dealt with a quad injury for much of 2025, including punting through it at times, finishing the year as PFF’s 112th punter out of 116 qualified players.

The change in coaching situation — and time removed from the injury — could pay dividends for the young local punter’s development.

Kicker Jesus Gomez is out of eligibility, but his replacement may have already been identified, as UCLA transfer Mateen Bhaghani is set to visit Tempe on Saturday.

Kick and punt coverage were also issues for ASU, and Scifres’ addition could allow for Nudo to take an even more active role in coaching that side.

The Nudo name is familiar to long time AZ Rattlers fans, Gene Nudo was the GM back in the late 90's/early 2000's. Wonder if Jack is his kid??
