Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson tracking to return at Colorado, Kyson Brown ‘probably out for the year’

TEMPE — Arizona State expects to get wide receiver Jordyn Tyson back in the near future, while running back Kyson Brown is “probably gonna be out for the year,” coach Kenny Dillingham said Monday.

Safety Xavion Alford, who has been out since Week 2 with an undisclosed injury, is trending toward a return, but it’s uncertain whether that will come after the bye week against West Virginia (Nov. 15) or later.

Defensive end Prince Dorbah and linebacker Tate Romney have “really good shots” to return after the bye week, Dillingham added.

ASU finishes the year at Colorado (Nov. 22) and at home against Arizona (Nov. 28).

Tyson suffered a hamstring injury against Texas Tech before missing the last two games against Houston and Iowa State.

“His timeline’s probably more Colorado from where his injury was,” Dillingham said. “It’s probably trending more to have a chance at that one, but he’s doing everything he can to get back.”

Tyson accounted for 75% of the receptions by ASU wide receivers prior to the games he missed, and a few pass catchers broke out in his absence.

Malik McClain had a career-best game with seven catches for 159 yards against Houston before following it up with 49 yards against Iowa State. Jalen Moss posted a season-high 52 yards on three catches in the Iowa State win.

Brown has been dealing with an ankle injury since the Mississippi State loss. He missed one game at first before seeing limited action in the Baylor and TCU games. He was then shut down for the four-game segment between bye weeks.

After entering the season as ASU’s lead running back, Brown had 145 total yards on 13 touches in the season opener against NAU.

“It’s just not trending in a direction where he can return,” Dillingham said.

Since the injury, Raleek Brown emerged as a featured running back and enters Week 11 second in the Big 12 in rushing yards (770), 19 yards shy of BYU’s LJ Martin (789) for the lead.

Adrian “Boogie” Wilson, a transfer from Washington State where he was initially recruited by ASU defensive coordinator Brian Ward, has filled in for Alford consistently and effectively since Week 2.

Wilson has stuffed the stat sheet with one interception, five passes defensed, 41 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble.
