Kenny Dillingham alludes to future in cryptic message as Auburn, LSU, Florida jobs fill up

As the college football world saw several new head coaches recently hired, Arizona State football head coach Kenny Dillingham took to social media on Sunday with a cryptic message that potentially alluded to his own future.

In a since-deleted tweet, Dillingham gave his thoughts on X and on his Instagram story using a Denzel Washingnoton tweet (a parody not to be confused with actor Denzel Washington) about destination addiction.

“Beware of destination addiction: The idea that happiness is the next place, the next job, or even with the next partner,” Dillingham said in the post. “Until you give up the idea that happiness is somewhere else, it will never be where you are.”

Dillingham posted several hashtags in the post, including “LIFERS.”

The deleted post was a possible reference to the now former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin using the same tweet in 2021, saying the grass isn’t always greener.

Kiffin had been largely connected to the LSU head coach job opening despite the No. 6 Rebels finishing with an 11-1 record and looking like a lock for the 2025 College Football Playoff. He announced on Sunday his decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU. 

Dillingham’s deleted tweet comes as his name popped up earlier this month as a potential candidate for several power four head coach openings, including Auburn, Florida, LSU and Penn State. Dillingham was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn in 2019.

Following ASU’s game against West Virginia on Nov. 15, Dillingham affirmed his commitment to the Sun Devils, saying he was never leaving and that ASU is his home.

Several power four programs have reportedly hired new head coaches on Sunday, including Florida’s hiring of Tulane coach Jon Sumrall and Auburn signing USF’s Alex Golesh.

Dillingham praised Auburn’s hiring of Golesh as well as Arkansas hiring Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield, who Dillingham worked with when he was on Memphis’ coaching staff from 2017-18.
