Kyson Brown likely to return for ASU vs. Baylor, per Big 12 availability report

Arizona State’s Kyson Brown will likely return to the running back rotation on Saturday at Baylor, the Big 12 availability report indicated on Thursday.

Brown received a “probable” designation on Wednesday after coach Kenny Dillingham said following the last game he was “trending heavily” toward a return.

Safety Xavion Alford and slot receiver Jalen Moss were ruled out for the matchup earlier on Wednesday, while the Sun Devils will also be without offensive linemen Doughless Teloma and Brent Helton, defensive lineman MyKeil Gardner, defensive back Plas Johnson, tight end Jayden Fortier and quarterback Cameron Dyer.

While Brown was one of 16 Sun Devils listed as probable on the initial report, six came off the report on the Thursday update.

Additionally, linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu was upgraded from questionable to probable.

Baylor will be without safety Devin Turner, wide receiver Mason Dossett, linebacker Phoenix Jackson, running back Dawson Pendergrass and tight end Brody Wilhelm.

Cornerback Kyler Beaty was upgraded on Thursday from questionable to probable.

How does Kyson Brown potentially returning impact Arizona State RB rotation?

ASU has rushed for at least 200 yards in each game so far, including when Brown had 145 total yards in the season-opening victory against NAU.

He took just two carries for 11 yards (six snaps) before he injured his ankle at Mississippi State. He was seen warming up before the win over Texas State, but he was held out.

Since he’s been out, Raleek Brown has put the Big 12 on notice by becoming the conference’s second-leading rusher (292 yards) behind Saturday opponent Bryson Washington of Baylor (304).

Raleek Brown ranks fourth in yards per carry (8.3) among Power Four running backs with at least 25 rushes. He also rushed for a touchdown when both Browns were healthy in Week 1.

No matter which of the two takes the first carry, the backs are well equipped to put stress on a Baylor defense that ranks third-to-last among Power Four teams in rush defense, per PFF.

Updates are posted at 7 p.m. MST three nights, two nights and one night before game day with a final update of just “available” or “out” designations posted 90 minutes before kickoff.
