TEMPE — Sam Leavitt was present at Arizona State football practice on Tuesday for the first time in open media viewing since before his surgery.
Jeff Sims, who has taken all the quarterback snaps Leavitt hasn’t this season for ASU, said after practice that Leavitt has been around all the time behind closed doors.
“He’s basically here every day, being around the guys, helping the younger guys out,” Sims said. “Me and him, if I see anything on the field, we’ll talk about it and stuff. But Sam’s been here, he ain’t really ever not been here.”
Leavitt was often at practices wearing a boot after he was initially ruled out for the season.
Tuesday, riding a knee scooter with a cast, was the first time he was at ASU’s practice post-surgery.
Since his last appearance, there were reports about his camp actively shopping him to other teams.
Though entering the transfer portal remains a possibility, Leavitt’s appearance on Tuesday showed that he remains engaged with the program.
Other players dealing with season-ending injuries, such as Ben Coleman, Xavion Alford and Zyrus Fiaseu, have been frequently seen at practices throughout their recoveries.
Sims added that Leavitt has been very supportive of ASU’s success — three wins in Sims’ last three starts.
“He’s been hype, you know, that’s my guy,” Sims said. “So after every game, he’ll text me just all hype. You know how Sam is: very passionate dude. So it’s been cool to see his support.”

I admit I'm drinking the ASU Kool-Aid in massive quantities on this one, so no one should be surprised that I'm buying the propaganda piece by Damon Allred and reading it to be a sign that Sam Leavitt is not going to transfer and that he'll be Dilly's chief Recruiter and Salesman for both new freshmen and transfers, and that he's already assumed the position and is actively working.
If the ASU AD and Dilly are to be believed when they say that ASU now has enough NIL money to compete, with Leavitt now in position, IMHO, ASU and Dilly could be poised to have their greatest recruiting and transfer haul ever, so great that it propels ASU for the first time into the elite of College Football. I will readily acknowledge that I was drinking large quantities of ASU Kool-Aid before and during my writing of this message, and loving every second.

When that On3 "report" came out last week, there was lots of speculation and what makes most sense is that Leavitt is collecting offers as leverage to get more NIL from ASU and that he really does not want to leave. Whether true or not, it does make sense even though he has given away a lot of his current NIL $'s to teammates, indicating NIL money is not that important to him. In other words, who the heck knows?
