Arizona State students heeded the call from head coach Kenny Dillingham, showing up in record numbers for the football team’s home opener against NAU on Saturday.
According to Arizona State, 14,280 students packed into Mountain America Stadium to set a new record for a student crowd.
Dillingham has been calling to get more fans into the stadium basically since he took over the program.
In his first season in 2023, Dillingham recruited fans for a game against Colorado, which led to back-to-back home sellouts for the first time since 2007.
He has also been working toward fundraising for an indoor facility that would double as a tailgate area, modeled after the 16th hole at the Waste Management Open.
Setting new attendance records should help that cause.
As for the game, ASU took a 17-6 lead into halftime in front of their raucous student section.

It's always about tix. Sold
The student section showed-up for sure, and from the part of the broadcast that worked, the crowd was solid, but that was NOT a sell-out. They may have "sold" all the tickets, but there were empty seats. On to Starkville!
