ASU LB Zyrus Fiaseu ruled out vs. TCU, bringing unavailable total to 5 from regular rotation

Arizona State will miss five players from its regular rotation against TCU on Friday, with one key defender ruled out on the Thursday injury report update.

Linebacker Zyrus Fiaseu will not play after he first appeared with a questionable distinction on Wednesday. He was not listed on the original report on Tuesday.

He makes five rotational players ruled out, including safety Xavion Alford, slot receiver Jalen Moss, defensive back Montana Warren and defensive end Albert Smith III.

TCU will be without primary running back Kevorian Barnes, who had 113 rushing yards and one touchdown in the Horned Frogs’ season opener against UNC.

No Sun Devils were added to the final update before kickoff.

Fiaseu has played 101 defensive snaps as the first linebacker off the bench for ASU, behind Jordan Crook and Keyshaun Elliott. He’s racked up 12 tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed in four games.

Look for sophomore Martell Hughes, who has 16 tackles and 80 defensive snaps, to get some more run.

The ASU secondary withstood the absences of Alford and Warren against a high-powered passing offense at Baylor, and it will face a similar test against TCU’s offense.

Boogie Wilson and Kyndrich Breedlove had particularly strong outings (11 tackles and one tackle for loss combined), while Keith Abney II gave ASU its first interception by a defensive back this season.

Moss has been out since the season opener while dealing with a foot injury and illness, and it was Derek Eusebio stepping in to make plays at Baylor behind Jordyn Tyson at wide receiver. Expect the former walk-on to be involved again on Friday.

Smith is on the back end of a defensive line rotation that TCU coach Sonny Dykes referred to as one of the best the Horned Frogs will see all year. The redshirt freshman got his first sack of his career two weeks ago against Texas State.
