TEMPE — Halftime of Arizona State football’s matchup with Hawaii ran longer than normal, as the game was delayed due to weather in the area.

The teams came out to kick off the second half at 9:54 p.m. MST, about 39 minutes after the delay was announced.

Intermittent rain was present for the first half of the game, which ASU led 17-6 at the break in part thanks to Cardae Mack’s wildcat touchdown, but lightning was spotted in the area as the teams left the field for the locker room following the first 30 minutes being played without stoppage.

NCAA rules require a 30-minute wait from the last lightning detected in an eight-mile radius.

The game was not the only one in the Big 12 to be impacted by weather on Saturday, as the Utah-Kansas game in Salt Lake City was preemptively moved up from 7:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. to avoid weather issues.
