In 27 games with the Crimson last season, the 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 9.1 points (45.5% shooting), three rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Nelson was a former three-star prospect from Salpointe Catholic High School.

Nelson joins a backcourt that includes Jaden Bradley and five-star prospect Brayden Burries, the latter of whom committed to Arizona on Thursday.

Nelson signing marks first addition for Arizona from transfer portal

Arizona’s signing of Nelson marks the first player the Wildcats have added from the transfer portal this offseason.

Arizona has seen four players leave through the transfer portal, including guard KJ Lewis, centers Henri Veesaar and Emmanuel Stephen and point guard Conrad Martinez.

Despite the losses through the transfer portal, Arizona has had a good recruiting class this offseason, adding Burries, Perry High School star Koa Peat, four-star prospect Dwayne Aristode and Bryce James, the son of NBA star Lebron James.

Arizona’s 2025 class ranks seventh nationally and third in the Big 12, per 247 Sports.
