Star Arizona freshman Koa Peat out for 2nd half of Arizona loss with lower leg injury

Star Arizona freshman Koa Peat was ruled out for the second half of the Wildcats’ loss against Texas Tech on Saturday due to a lower leg injury.

Peat played 11 minutes in the first half and had two points, one rebound and one assist. He did not attempt a field goal and went 2 of 4 at the foul line. He exited with seven seconds left in the first half.

“I mean we’re gonna figure it out. It’s a lower leg deal,” Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd told reporters after Arizona’s 78-75 loss. “I know (athletic trainer Justin Kokoskie), and the doctors are on it, and I’m sure they’ll do some testing and we’ll figure out where it’s at, but I don’t have anything other than that.”

With Peat ruled out and Dwayne Aristode out with the flu, the Wildcats were left with six rotation players for the second half. Tobe Awaka started the second half in place of Peat.

“Dwayne has an illness. Nothing crazy,” Lloyd said. “But just something that’s probably gonna keep him out for a short while.”

Lloyd said Aristode could miss Wednesday’s game vs. BYU as well.

“I mean I don’t know for sure, but I think there’s a chance,” Lloyd said.

This season, Peat is the Wildcats’ second-leading scorer and is averaging 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks. He has started all 24 of No. 1 Arizona’s games up to this point.
