Bam Knight, who was the Arizona Cardinals’ biggest surprise to make the initial 53-man roster on last year’s team, has agreed to return for 2026.

His agent, Mike McCartney, gave Knight a congratulatory social media post to announce the news of a one-year deal on Wednesday morning. The running back acknowledged the post with a heart hands emoji.

Knight joins a running back group that appears fairly set now.

The Cardinals reworked the contract to bring back last year’s starter, James Conner, and added Atlanta Falcons backup Tyler Allgeier. The room that also includes third-year pro Trey Benson, who is still trying to catch traction on his rookie deal.

Knight, 24, was a free agent after he signed a one-year deal with Arizona last year.

He made an impression in training camp and the preseason, winning a battle to make the last 53-man roster cutdown ahead of veteran backs DeeJay Dallas and Michael Carter.

Knight posted 82 carries for 269 yards (3.3 yards per carry) and a career-high four touchdowns in 2025.

He added 22 catches for 160 yards and another score before his season ended with three games remaining due to an ankle injury.

The North Carolina State product had two stints with the New York Jets (2022, 2024) and one with the Detroit Lions (2023) before he joined the Cardinals.

Feels like a serviceable running back room. Glad to see Conner get well. I hope this platoon concept works.

It's actually worse than 3.8 YPC as a group. It's about 3.6 YPC. Your math is slightly off because it's incorrect to average the averages. You have to weight it by carries. Allgeier and Knight had way more carries than Benson, and so even though Benson had a high average, it isn't weighted as much. I can't put a nice table and so the formatting doesn't look good, but that's the data below. They combined for 286 carries for 1038 yards.
Attempts Yards Average
Conner 32 95 3.0
Knight 82 269 3.3
Benson 29 160 5.5
Allgeier 143 514 3.6
286 1038 3.6

Bam ran hard, solid keep. Like the room, not just who is going to hand it off... And not sold on the line yet.
