Report: Cardinals expected to retain Nick Rallis as defensive coordinator
The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly expected to retain Nick Rallis as their defensive coordinator.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to retain Nick Rallis as their defensive coordinator under new head coach Mike LaFleur, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Zenitz also reported the Cardinals are expected to retain Justin Frye as offensive line coach and hire former NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Schaub as quarterbacks coach.
Rallis has been the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator since 2023, previously coaching under former head coach Jonathan Gannon for three seasons. Under Rallis last season, Arizona’s defense allowed 357.7 yards (27th in the NFL) and 28.7 points (29th) per game as the Cardinals finished 3-14.
The news comes after Zenitz reported earlier on Thursday that the Cardinals had interviewed Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Karl Scott for the DC job.
Scott had been one of several coaches linked to the Cardinals’ DC opening. Others include Los Angeles Rams defensive passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant, New York Giants linebackers coach Charlie Bullen and Houston Texans defensive backs coach Dino Vasso.
Bullen and Vasso have opted to remain with their current teams.
Arizona’s coaching staff under LaFleur continues to take shape after the Cardinals added offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, running backs coach Matt Merritt and wide receivers coach Tony Sorrentino to the staff.

They never want to spend it. Make asst position coaches, position coaches. Get the guy who was breaking down film for the Bills last year to be your OC, cuz he's a family friend. RB coach from college with no pro experience, a WR coach who has 4 years as an asst to an asst or 'passing game coordinator' Bring back an inexperienced O-line coach who had basically the worst line in the league back along with the D coordinator whose squad gave up in the last 9 games over 40 four times, and over 30 twice, an average 38 game to end the season. THAT dude? I can't wait to see the marketing for this season: You have never seen a coaching team like this!!! Because no one has ever seen these guys either! The apple may not fall far from the Bidwill tree, but why is it rotten when before hits the ground?
I don't blame either coordinater as much as Monti and Gannon.
Monti because he didn't try finding players to fill in when the injuries started piling up
and Gannon should be responsible for the overall game plan on both sides of the ball.
Football is also a collection of men who have opinions, preferences and loyalties. Rallis did a fine job his first two years. If you are the owner and brand new HC and the defensive personnel come in and talk to you saying that they still believed in Rallis and have his back...that matters a huge deal.
We were not that far from being a good football team last year and are not that far from approaching that in the coming season. I think they quit on Gannon, not Rallis.
The Oline coach is an entirely different discussion, but I think Rallis can be a fine DC.
