Dave Pasch leaving as Cardinals play-by-play voice to assume larger NFL role with ESPN

Dave Pasch is departing as the radio play-by-play voice of the Arizona Cardinals after 24 years, as he takes an expanded NFL broadcast role for ESPN.

“It’s been almost half my life, so it’s been quite the journey,” Pasch told AZCardinals.com. “It’s a journey I did not think would come to an end. It’s one that I will look on with very fond memories and I think the biggest reason why is because of the people that I got to work with over the years.”

ESPN has added eight extra NFL games this season outside of Monday Night Football and just acquired the NFL Network. Five are for international games overseas, and that left ESPN’s No. 2 voice, Chris Fowler, unable to continue his role due to his work as the top college football play-by-play man, according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand.

Pasch has worked for ESPN as an NBA and college football and basketball play-by-play man dating back to 2003. Those duties have fit around his past Cardinals schedule.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Pasch worked in the preseason for the Buffalo Bills (2001) and called football and basketball games at Syracuse on radio (1999-2002).

“As I move to an expanded and exclusive role with ESPN, I would like to thank Jimmy Pitaro, Burke Magnus and Mike McQuade for this great opportunity,” Pasch said in a release through ESPN. “Having covered the NFL for two and a half decades for the Arizona Cardinals, I’m thrilled to now be involved with the NFL on the national stage, along with continuing to call college football, basketball and the NBA. I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my career.”

The Cardinals have seen turnover in the booth the past two offseasons. Current Arizona Sports co-host Ron Wolfley left the Cardinals’ color analyst seat for A.Q. Shipley last offseason after Wolfley spent two decades next to Pasch.
