Cardinals’ Emari Demercado suffers ankle injury in loss to 49ers

GLENDALE — Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado exited in the second quarter of Sunday’s 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury.

He did not return.

Demercado attempted to reenter the game but after testing out the ankle on the sideline, headed back to the locker room with a trainer.

The running back exited with eight yards on five carries. He added a pair of receptions for 12 yards.

With Demercado out, the running game, which recorded just 36 yards on 14 carries, went through Bam Knight and Michael Carter.

Cornerback Garrett Williams (shin) and offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum (groin) also went down in the loss.
