The Arizona Cardinals are planning to sign quarterback Jacoby Brissett, confirms Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
Gambadoro adds the deal spans two years and carries an average value of $6.25 million.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the move.
Brissett is coming off his ninth NFL season in which he completed 59% of his passes for 826 yards and two touchdowns to one interception across eight games (five starts) for the New England Patriots in 2024. He posted a 74.2 passer rating.
The signal caller started the first five games of the year before making way for rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who started 12 games in his first year with the Patriots.

Brissett has been a bit of a journeyman since entering the league in 2016 with New England as a third-round draft pick (No. 91 overall) in 2016.
After his first one-year stint with the Patriots as a rookie, Brissett went on to play four seasons with Indianapolis (2017-19) before one-year stops at Miami (2021), Cleveland (2022), Washington (2023) and New England (2024).
It was during his time with the Browns when he and now-Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing got to work.
Serving as Cleveland’s quarterback coach at the time, Brissett was thrown into a starting role with incumbent starter Deshaun Watson suspended for 11 games due to allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple women.
With Watson sidelined, Brissett completed 64.1% of his throws for 2,608 yards and 12 touchdowns to six interceptions across his 11 starts. His play translated to an 89.1 passer rating, the second highest mark of his career to date.
Brissett’s play and familiarity working with Petzing, was a big reason why Brissett was atop free-agent quarterback options in 2022 when franchise signal caller Kyler Murray was still sidelined due to a torn ACL suffered the year prior.
The reunions don’t stop at Petzing, either. Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort was a part of the Patriots front office when Brissett was drafted.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon also crossed paths with Brissett during his time as Indianapolis’ defensive backs coach from 2018-2020.
Cardinals’ updated quarterbacks room
In addition to Brissett, the Cardinals’ QBs room includes Murray and second-year pro Clayton Tune.
Tune made one start in 2022 with Murray still out and has been used in short-yardage situations here and there.
Cardinals staying busy this NFL free agency
Arizona continues to churn the roster this free agency period. On top of re-signing a handful of in-house options led by guard Evan Brown, the Cardinals also agreed to terms with pass rusher Josh Sweat and inside linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither. With Brissett now in the mix, that marks three outside additions for Arizona in the past two days.

A big upgrade over Tune and all the other backup QBs since Drew Stanton.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
I'm fine being patient. They signed Sweat, big splash, big money. But they need to be judicious in how they spend their remaining cap space. McBride is going to command a nice raise.
Ok fine, but guys like this are available all spring...why now?
Where are the guys who are actually going to help us catch up to LA? Where are the guys who are going to help us win a playoff game? Isnt that the goal?
Or is the goal to sit on our hands and be careful?
WTF is going on here? FA's only cost money. They dont take players or draft capital away. We have the fourth most cap space and we have added ONE guy who makes us better. ONE.
